Deep Seaport: We Want to Deliberately Push Development to Badagry Area – Sanwo-Olu

The Executive Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said his administration is working to deliberately push development to Badagry by sponsoring and supporting projects that will aid the growth and development of the region, which the communities have always yearned for over time.

Governor Sanwo-Olu made this known while responding to the plights of the community during a Stakeholders Meeting on Badagry Deep Seaport and Free Zone Project, that held on Tuesday 1st March 2022, at Administrative Staff College of Nigeria, Topo-Badagry, Lagos State, organized by the State’s Ministry of Commerce, Mines and Cooperatives in collaboration with Badagry Port Development Limited.

The Governor reiterated the commitment of his administration towards creating an enabling environment to ensure that development thrive, noting that the commitment of his administration towards the Badagry seaport project prompted his presence at the community engagement meeting to channel the course for progress.

“We are here because of the value we place on the project. We want to deliberately push development to Badagry area. The project started since 2012 during my predecessors’ tenure, we have started the reactivation process and by end of April, it should be completed and hopefully two months after, by June, the work should start.

“We would activate all the seriousness required for this project to materialize. That is why I am here today. After this one, we are planning to come and sink a Gas Plant here in Badagry. We have a Coconut Farm at Mowo, I have discussed with the Commissioner of Agriculture to expand it to accommodate the communities concerned here that have coconut blocs on the affected land for the Badagry Sea Port Project”. Sanwo-Olu said.

Sanwo-Olu also applauded the communities for the patience exercised so far, urging the dissenting voices to allow the safe-landing of the project, stressing that the Badagry Deep Seaport project will attract development to Badagry Division, Lagos State and the nation at large as the project is of global standard and prospected to be the largest in West Africa, pointing out that Dubai is what it is today due the presence of the Deep Seaport it has.

In his Remarks, one of the traditional ruler of the host communities, Alapa of Apa Kingdom in Badagry West Local Council Development Area, HRM Oba Oyekan Adekanmi (JP), Ilufemiloye Ajose Posi III stated that the community has accepted the project and is ready to accommodate other developmental projects.
