The Lagos State Government under the leadership of the Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu has disclosed its plan to resuscitate the youth centers in Badagry, Lagos State.
This was revealed by the Senior Special Assistant on Youth Development to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akanbi-Ade Saheed on Monday 17th December 2020 during an inspection tour to three youth centers in Badagry.
Mr. Akanbi stated that the inspection tour to the youth centers at Ajara Vetho, GRA Badagry and Ajara Torikoh was as a result of the quest to bring youths in Lagos state together and to inspect if the youth centers are still in their appropriate shapes.
“What brought us here basically today is part of our quest to see how we can engage our youths to see if the youth centers we have in our local governments in Lagos are well in place,” he said.
The SSA on Youth Development to the Governor of Lagos State also noted that the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development in Lagos State, Mr. Segun Dawodu is eager to see all youth centres back to its appropriate state.
“The way forward is to see how we can get these places restructured, what we saw here is not encouraging. I don’t even think that our youths know that we have such things, so this is a strategic step and with that what we need to do is to see how we can put things together and I’m very sure that the Governor will commence that by next year.
“As an ambassador of youth development coupled with what I have seen here today, I will join force with my commissioner to ensure quick intervention,” he added.”
In the same vein, the Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Mr. Olusegun Onilude noted that the local government is ready to synergize with the state and federal governments and other stakeholders involved in ensuring that the youth centers are put into productive use.
Speaking on the state of the structures, the Chairman said “We are around to check the facilities around us that the youths could make use of, unfortunately what we met on ground was not what we desired. Some have been abandoned, some are not put to use and things are bad.”
“Badagry Local Government has once written the Ministry of Youths in Lagos State at a time we were in dire need of extending our vocational youth center, but in their response to us, they made us realize that they had plans for us and I want to believe that part of their plans is what brought the SSA to Badagry today.
We will put everything in motion to ensure that we put these places into productive use.” Onilude added.
Reports have it that rehabilitation of youth centers is taking place in some other parts of the state.
