The Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government Area, Mr. Oilude Olusegun Adeniran has debunked the allegation peddled on social media that his administration has mismanaged the sum of 5Billion Naira the Council realized during his tenure.
Onilude debunked the allegation during a Press Conference that held on Thursday, 27th May 2021 at the Skill Acquisition Centre, Ajara while giving an account of his stewardship as the Chairman of the Council.
According to him, there are systems within and outside the local government that ensures there is check and balance in the financial administration of public funds at the local government level, adding that the council has not received such amount over the four years of his administration.
“As a responsible person, I should not be reacting to every fictitious and baseless allegations. There are systems within and outside the local government that creates room for checks and balances such as internal auditors, procurement unit, external auditors, Lagos State Legislative arm among others who visit quarterly to play oversight functions. Saying such is casting aspersion on such bodies as not doing their work.
“The local government has not received such money as that for four years not to talk of someone mismanaging or embezzling the money”. He said.
“Despite the lean resources of the Local Government amid dwindling allocations, the Onilude administration is slowly but surely changing the landscape of the local government area through the execution of people oriented and economically viable projects and programmes”. He said, before mentioning some of the projects and achievements of his administration.
Onilude mentioned some of the projects of his administration as; construction and furnishing of six classrooms blocks at Iyafin and Keta-West, Gberefu: Provision of free JAMB and GCE forms to not less than Four Hundred (400) indigent students; distribution of free uniforms, white marker boards and exercise books to all 23 primary schools in Badagry; construction of Sunny Ajose-Togbe road; construction of Agankanmeh Road; construction of Kiki Whenu Shopping Complex at Badagry Roundabout; upgrading of the Agbalata International Market inherited from previous administration; construction of Ikoga and Ajara New Market; reconstruction of Palace Road; and the creation of Tourism unit at the Local Government to work together with the State Ministry of Tourism to achieve a lasting structure and foundation for tourism development in the area.
Other projects and achievements Mr. Onilude laid credence to are; quarterly empowerment of business people; farmers support programme; distribution of free vocational equipments such as deep freezers, sewing machines, hair dryers and cash grants among others; renovation of the abandoned UNDP Vocational Centre; renovation of Ajara Flagship Heath Care Centre and supply of needed equipment, renovation of Topo/Idale Heath Post; ongoing construction of a new Administrative Building at the council secretariat; completion of the Oba CD Akran Legislative building; purchase of official vehicles for political staff and management staff; as well as the construction, patching and renovation of some roads across the local council area, among others.
He also debunked allegation that staff of the local government are not provided toilets in the council secretariat. He said, “The buildings we are talking about are just old but almost every offices have an attached toilet. You can see that we even have toilets for visitors just like the one adjourning the council chamber”.
Mr. Onilude whose first term in office as Chairman of Badagry Local Government is winding down is seeking re-election under the All Progressives Congress. The Party is set to determine its flag-bearers in all local council areas across Lagos State this Saturday.
