Iba Ruling House Calls for Sanwo-Olu Intervention in Kingship Tussle

The three wings of the ruling house of Iba Community in the Local Council Development Area, Lagos State, comprising of the Oseni, Shonibare and Orootan families have called for the intervention of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the kingship tussle going on in the community.

Speaking with Punch , the representative of Oseni ruling house, Baale of Sabo-Oniba, Chief Taofeek Oseni, stated that the ruling house had not nominated any candidate for the vacant stool, asserting that the royal family and members of the community will mourn the late king for three months and one day, after which the necessary rites will be performed prior to the installation of a new king.

“It is the ruling house that will nominate a candidate for the throne of Oniba whenever there is a vacancy and not the kingmakers. That is how it has been since the days of the first Oniba-Ekun. The Oniba stool is not for the highest bidder; it is meant for genuine, responsible, knowledgeable and exemplary princes of the Oniba ruling house, subject to nomination by the family.

“For the record, the Chairman of the Iba LCDA, the Chairman of the Ojo Local Government Chieftaincy Committee and the Lagos State Government have been duly notified on this development with necessary documents submitted.

“We, therefore, implore members of the general public and the government to take note of the desperation of impostors and their cohorts and treat this matter accordingly in the interest of justice, equity and peace.” He said.

Corroborating the above, Adegbola Shonibare representing Shonibare ruling house, noted that kingship in the community is traditional, therefore appealing for the intervention of the State Government in the kingship tussle.

“The actions of the perpetrators have been a thing of sadness. Iba town is a traditional town, just like our ancestors laid it down while founding the town.

“I wish to implore all the good people of Iba and its environs, and to implore the government too, to ensure that the peaceful nature of the Iba community is not trampled upon by mischief-makers.” Shonibare added.
