A non-governmental organisation concerned about environmental health and cleanliness in Badagry, Green Janitors Sustainable Initiatives today 31st October 2020 has hosted the “Let’s Clean Our Badagry Project”.
The cleaning exercise which took place at six kickoff locations: Badagry Roundabout, Mowo, Aradagun, Oko-Afo, Agbara and Gbaji was aimed at picking trash to dispose them and picking plastics for recycling purposes.
Management and staff of CityMood Communications, Publisher of Badagry’s frontline magazine, CityMood, joined the group at Badagry Roundabout as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to its community.
According to the Executive Director of Green Janitors, initiator of the project, Mr Ashade Abdusalam, the project is aimed at making Badagry environment clean and attractive for tourists, visitors and residents.
“The Clean-up Badagry Project is to ensure we have a very beautiful environment. A lot of waste is generated in Lagos State but people pay no cognisance to clean up dirts, that is why Green Janitors have taken up the responsibility to clean the environment and to sensitize the people on the importance of a clean environment.” He said.
The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Solomon Bonu who also partook in the cleaning exercise commended people who came out for the project.
“All what you have picked here today will go a long way, it will not disturb the environment anymore if the youths can continue this way, not waiting for government to do everything for them,” he said.
“The Ministry of Environment will soon visit Badagry, I will make sure they visit Badagry to give Green Janitors what it takes to continue with this ” Bonu added.
Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer of CityMood Communications, Mr Sewhude Akande pointed out that environmental sanitation is the responsibility of every citizen as this will help to promote a serene environment for healthy living.
“It’s part of our corporate social responsibility to join Green Janitors in keeping the environment clean. It behoves on us all to keep our environment clean, tidy and conducive for business. And that is why we urge sister corporates to lend a hand of support to the Clean-Up Badagry Project to make our host community environmental friendly.” He added.
In the same vein the Supervisor for Environment, Badagry Local Government, Prince Samson Apata stated that efforts will be put in place by the Local Government to ensure that the Clean-up Project is not a one off thing.
“Efforts that will be put in place by the Local Government to ensure the cleaning does not become a one off thing is by encouraging the youth and give them adequate support and sense of belonging to make them participate in cleaning the environment as it is not just for them but, for everyone” He said.
