#EndSARS Protest: Gbenu Address Youths of Badagry West LCDA

The Chairman of Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Lagos State, Hon. Gbenu Henugbe, has commended youths of the area for displaying high sense of comportment and maturity during the recent struggle to end SARS and fix roads in the area.

This was revealed in a press release issued by the Chairman, recently in the LCDA.

“It has become very pertinent for me to appreciate the teaming youths of Badagry West for displaying a high level of comportment, maturity and understanding during the #EndSARS, #EndPoliceBrutality, #EndCustomsKilling, #EndMutilplePoliceCheckPoints, #FixLagosBadagryExpressRoad, #FixOwodeGbajiExpress road protest.

“This is no doubt your right as enshrined in the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria, knowing well that we operate a democratic system of government in Nigeria.

“As your Council Chairman which you massively voted for, it gives me unconditional love to always associate myself with you especially considering the set of sound, dexterous, educated, responsible, proactive, intelligent and brave set of youths I found myself to be serving in the area.

“I want to unequivocally thank you all for adhering to the directive of Mr. Governor on the curfew; vacating the highways at Gbaji, Seme and Owode, including some of our youths who joined the joint protest at Badagry round about and Agbara.

“While I express my deepest heart feelings to the families of youths affected during the peaceful protest across the state and nation before it was hijacked by thugs and hoodlums, I urge us to be more vigilant, protect our communities with all sense of intelligence and vigour as it remains our pride. On our part as a government too, we have not and will not rest on our oars in ensuring adequate security and protection of life and properties.

“I strongly advice us to continue to maintain peace and unity at this tempo while the responsive administration of Mr. Babajide Olushola Sanwoolu, Governor of Lagos State put our 5for5, 7for7 agenda into action. Nobody loves us more than we do.” The statement reads.

“Great youths of our time, let me recount that my administration have never relent in her effort towards engaging the men of the Nigeria Police including other security agencies in my area especially been a border area through consistent peace and security meetings and during courtesy visit by new heads.

“At a time, I was persuaded to write directly to the Vice President Of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osinbajo and the Inspector General of Police on the misconduct and multiple checkpoints on our highway by Officers of the Nigeria Police. I want to believe that your (youths) protest will further complement the existing and moderacy would be applied.

“It is no longer news that my administration remains one of the most youth-friendly administration in the history of the local government with record of increased youths as either Special Assistants, Cabinet Member and mostly Councilors despite the minimal resources allocated to the LCDA.

“My intention is to have an inclusive, youth driven government at the grassroot with the aim of breeding leaders who together we can work as a team while they explore themselves and bring the needed change in the Local Council Development Area.
Part of our youth intervention programs and support includes scholarship for less privileged students to tertiary institutions, specifically at Crestfield College Of Education, Erin Ogun State in Oct. 2018.

“We also embarked on youth related trainings which in most cases are graduate entrepreneurship programs such as ITF/NISDP with huge skill empowerment pack, training of 750 youths during APCV-NEMAPP, Coconut Craft Training in collaboration with LASCODA, and more importantly the administrative processing and creation of the National Youth Council Of Nigeria in the area been the first of its kind in the area to help bridge gap among all youth bodies within the LCDA.

“As part of our objective towards discovering talented youths in the area, I introduced Annual Marathon Race and Musical Talent Hunts organized at Suntan Beach where top Artiste were on ground in collaboration with DAAR Communications.

“Having mentioned just a few of our youth related support programs, I still will want to agree with the youths that it is never enough, but it is a movement in the right direction.

“We will not relent as a government and we will continue to be sensitive to your agitation and listen to the plight of the youths.

“Let’s live together as one in PEACE & UNITY. God bless Badagry West LCDA. God Bless Badagry. God Bless Lagos State. God Bless Nigeria” The statement added.
