The Special Adviser on Tourism, Arts and Culture to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Bonu Solomon on Saturday, 23rd October 2021 presented cheques to some newly admmitted students into LASU, LASPOTECH AND AOCOED, who are of Badagry origin and about twenty 200level students of the same category, who attained the CGPA of 3.5 above in their academic performance.
The second edition of the BONU-SANWO-TINUBU Education Support Scheme, which came up at Badagry Town hall, according to the organizer is aimed at supporting indigent students who could not afford school fees, to continue their educational pursuit.
The Special Adviser stated that, it is his life-long goal and one of his cardinal promises to the community to support education since the day he was appointed, and it is geared towards academic advancement and youth development to improve human capital development targeted toward growth and development of the society.
“Year 2020 was the first edition of this gesture where I promised that any student who performed excellently will also be rewarded in the next edition. Today, I am happy to report that, through our strict monitoring exercise, we were able to discover and reward more than 20 students that performed excellently in their academics”. He said.
Presenting the cheques, Bonu noted that he is pleased to relieve parents of paying school fees and see smiles on the faces of the younger ones, who probably could have been out of school. He further stated that he will continue to support the people of Badagry in his capacity to promote growth and development.
In his speech, the Guest Speaker, who is a lecturer at LASU, Dr. Henry Hunjo implored students to shun cultism, drug abuse and other anti-social vices that can mar their academic pursuit.
Supporting the initiative, HRM, the Oniba of Iba Kingdom, Oba Alhaji Suleiman Adeshina, presented a cheque of one million naira, adding that the overall best student who benefited from the scheme will receive a special gift from him next year. He noted that this will encourage students to focus more on their studies.
It would be recalled that the first edition of the BONU-SANWO-TINUBU Education Support Scheme was held last year where students of Badagry origin were presented with cheques and those who meet up with a CGPA of 3.5grade above are presented a cheque for their 200level school fees this year.
Present at the event are: HRM, the Oniba of Iba Kingdom, Oba, Alhaji Suleiman Adeshina, the Mobee of Badagry Kingdom; HRH, Amb. Chief Patrick Yedenu, Former Member, Lagos State House of Assembly, Political Leaders across the Constituency, Screening Committee Members, Students among others.
