“Bolaji Ogunlende is a True Son of Badagry” – His Father

The Badagry ancestry of the Pioneer of RAK Development Foundation, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende has for sometimes been a matter of speculations. But recently, Mr. Sheni Ogunlende, father of the popular philanthropist, has for the first time publicly responded to one of such speculations via a Facebook post questioning his son’s Badagry ancestry.

Mr. Sheni Ogunlende averred that, “I am the father of Bolaji Ogunlende, my late father was Alhaji Yinusa Ogingbedo Adisa Ogunlende of Aseri soil, Esesintingbe Quarters in Badagry West”. This was in response to a post by a Facebook user, Semasa Hunyingbo who queried the Badagry ancestry of the philanthropist and likely aspirant for House of Representatives, Badagry Federal Constituency in the coming general elections.

The Facebook user expressed the opinion that Badagry is a welcoming town, accommodating people from various backgrounds and orientations but expressed dissatisfaction that Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, who he alleged is from Kwara State, should not take advantage of this to further his perceived political aspiration.

However, responding via a comment on the post, Mr. Sheni Ogunlende asserted that his son is from Badagry West and gave a narration of the son’s relationship with Kwara State.

“My father Y. A. O. Ogunlende left home to learn a trade and educate himself, working with UAC, John Holt and G. B. Olivant of those days. He established himself at 27, Pedro Street our home on Lagos Island, He met good fortune and prospered.

“As a result of his father’s demise, his mother my grandmother Dade, came to live with us at Pedro leaving Badagry. My father married my mother giving birth to 6 children of which I am the 5th born.

“My father was doing well and stayed on in Lagos Island, as a result of this he left most of the family land in Badagry to other members of the Ogunlende family, some joined him in Lagos.

“I gave birth to Bolaji at Idioro on Lagos mainland. His mother and I decided not to live together. She later married into the Abdulrazak family of Ilorin Kwara State, who was his step father as per his mum’s marriage. He shuttled between our homes.

“I never at any time disowned him or disregarded him as my blood. I have narrated this in the light of some mischief makers, who do not have proper facts, refusing to find out the truth, resulting into lies and falsehoods”. Mr. Sheni Ogunlende wrote.

It would be recalled that His Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Sejiro Olalekan James, the Aholu of Kweme Kingdom in Badagry West LCDA recently presented Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende to His Majesty the Akran of Badagry during a formal visit to the famous monarch on Friday 14th January 2022.
