“Badagry Youth Engagement Summit is an Initiative of NYCN” – Chairman Planning Committee BYES

The Chairman of the Planning Committee, Badagry Youth Engagement Summit (BYES), Mr. Augustine Kiki has stated that BYES is an initiative of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Badagry Local Government Area, Olorunda and Badagry West Local Council Development Areas Chapters.

This was made known by the Chairman on Wednesday 18th November 2020 at the Pre-Engagement Press Conference held to address the media and stakeholders on the forthcoming summit scheduled to hold at Lagos Theatre Hall, Badagry Lagos State on December 5, 2020.

Mr. Kiki stated that the BYES is borne out of continuous neglect of the area by the government in terms of developmental projects.

“It is pathetic however that other Divisions in Lagos State are gradually getting attention of the government in the areas of socio-economic, political and infrastructural development but Badagry is largely neglected.

“This neglect has received greater attention from the people especially the youth in the recent past than ever. The bad shape of the Lagos-Badagry Express Road cannot be unconnected to the public outcry that is recently gathering momentum.” He said.

Mr. Kiki therefore noted that the idea behind BYES is to bridge the gap between the government, representatives and the youth, thereby channeling a new course towards the actualization of a new Badagry.

“The idea behind the BYES is to dialogue with the leaders of Badagry on how we can chat new paths towards development.

“The BYES aims at establishing a continuous engagement roundtable between the youth and the leaders of Badagry. This initiative will help to identify the infrastructural gaps in Badagry communities.” Kiki added.

He further stated that in pursuance of actualizing this cause, the NYCN through the planning committee has constituted a sub-committee made of concerned people who will draw the Badagry Development Agenda.

According to Kiki, “the council is mobilizing at least one hundred (100) youth groups in each of the local councils that make up Badagry Federation. These groups include: voluntary organizations, faith-based youth bodies, NGOs, Badagry Indigenous Young Lawyers Forum, the National Association of Badagry Division Students, political office holders and the media to attend the summit”.

“It should be emphatically stated that BYES is an initiative of NYCN and the NYCN is an umbrella body of the Youth. This programme is not singlehandedly sponsored by a political office holder nor collectively sponsored by political office holders but it is organized by the NYCN and assistance is been sought from political office holders, NGOs and whoever is interested in supporting it,” he said.
