BACCIMA Seeks Collaboration with Badagry Local Government to Facilitate Growth and Development of Commerce in the Region

The Badagry Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (BACCIMA) has reached out to the Executive Chairman at Badagry Local Government, Mr. Olusegun Onilude, seeking for collaboration to enhance the growth and development of the business community in the division.

This was made known when the Chamber paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman in the Council Secretariat recently.

Speaking during the courtesy visit, the Director-General of BACCIMA, Mr. Opeyemi Oke highlighted the roles of the body in the community, centred on creating a smooth environment for business (small and medium enterprises) to thrive thereby contributing immensely to the internally generated revenue (IGR) of the government and betterment of lives at large.

“The main reason for today’s gathering is to seek your collaboration for development. There needs to be synergy. We want to use this platform to collaborate for economic development in Badagry.” He said

Mr. Oke stated that the chamber has been on its toes to ensure hitch free running of business in the community thereby highlighting some of the steps it has take thus:

“We have been able to approach Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to have part in the stimulus package of over 1.2 trillion naira that has been declared for business growth in Nigeria to ensure our people have access to these loans.

“BACCIMA has been accredited as an Entrepreneurship Development Institute by CBN and by next week, we will be kicking off the first set of people that would be getting trained to access the loans. However, we want the collaboration of the Local Government to sponsor One Hundred (100) young people in Badagry to access the loan.

“Establishment of business forum with China by creating a platform for business owners to import, sell and pay back on the trust of BACCIMA.

“On transportation, we have reach out to Lagos State Government concerning the construction of Lagos-Badagry Expressway and the Governor has reached out to contractors to return to the site. We also engage the Lagos State Ferry Services to see how we can develop our waterways and there is a plan to be approved by the Governor to build a terminal in Badagry.” These he said among others.

Mr. Oke therefore appeal to the Chairman to make tourism sector a priority for development as the chamber is working towards having an accredited tourism institute in Badagry to ensure actors in the sector become professionally sound thereby contributing to the patronage of visitors.

“We want to ensure that we have the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce here in Badagry and for that to happen, we will need your strong collaboration” He added.

Responding, the Executive Chairman, Mr. Olusegun Onilude appreciated the body for taking such steps in a bid to ensure smooth running of business activities in the division, stating that the Local Government is ready to play her own part to ensure BACCIMA grow to fulfil all her mandates.

“The Badagry Local Government is not backing out and we will do everything that would make BACCIMA to grow in strength. I will pick two people to come down to your end to see how we can achieve some of these things.

“The promise I want you to take away from here is that, we are ready to co-operate and work with BACCIMA for growth and development” He said.
